When the opportunity arises we at Terry’s Quality Concrete love to do new and unusual projects. We like to be challenged and think outside the box. Pictured is John Burke of Grimes with his new telescope pier. John and his kids love to stargaze on clear nights and he needed a very specific concrete pier placed for his telescope. We had to dig a hole 3′ feet in diameter and 4.5 feet deep. We then had to place a bollard form 8.5 feet tall into the hole ensuring it was plumb. In the bottom of the hole we placed 6 inches of rock followed by 1 foot of concrete then filled the hole with dirt. After checking for plumb again we filled the cylinder with concrete and place the anchor bolts on top. ( all of the concrete is reinforced with steel ) The next day we pulled the forms and plate pattern on top and the final product is pictured with John standing proudly beside it.
