Foundation Problems
Foundation problems can be very troublesome to any homeowner. It is never pleasant to suddenly realize that the actual foundation of your home is failing. The foundation is what supports the entire home and when it starts to move a lot of bad things can happen. If a foundation problem is left unattended it can cause additional damage to windows, doors, brick fascia, siding, and drywall. Most foundation problems do not go unnoticed very long since that type of failure causes movement to other areas of the house. The big problems occur when, even after the homeowner is aware of it, it is left to get worse. Many times a problem that could have been repaired for a relatively low cost is ignored and over time causes much more serious damage to the foundation and other areas of the house.
Signs that your foundation has a problem can be found in many ways. If doors and/or windows become hard to open or close is a good indicator. When a foundation starts to fail it causes things to be knocked out of square. Cracks in brick fascia is another sign. Brick on a home is very rigid and usually the slightest movement in the foundation will cause cracks in the brick. Cracks in the basement wall will occur many times if you have a foundation problem. Cracks found in you basement wall are signs that something is sinking or the ground is pushing on your basement wall. Cracks and gaps in drywall is another obvious sign that something is moving. If you experience any or all of these problems, take a closer look around the house and you will probably find that you have a foundation problem.
